The Mum Mission Continues

The Mum Mission Continues

I’m excited that fall is approaching—my favorite time of year on the farm! Autumn means mum season, which I look forward to every year, just like everyone else eagerly anticipates pumpkin spice. The farm truly transforms in the fall: mornings are crisp, heavy with dew, and the rain has returned, turning the fields lush and green (though also overrun with weeds). Our self-serve “you-pick” station has been a hit, drawing people out to enjoy the milder weather and the farm’s natural beauty.

We’ve been busy chatting with visitors and focusing on the mother plants for our heritage mums to ensure we’re well-prepared for winter. I even managed to convince my 14-year-old to invite her friends over to help with the final push in potting the last of our mums. It was a blast! The kids enjoyed being outside and working together on a project without needing extra entertainment. It was a perfect example of what The Mum Project is all about: building a growing community. They were happily rewarded with pizza and an ice cream bar in the barn.

I’ve been working hard to sell our potted mums for fall, both directly from the farm and through local vendors. Although selling these plants requires a lot of effort, I’m confident about our direction. This is the first year we’re offering potted mums in the fall, and they’re available now! While we can’t ship them, they’re definitely worth grabbing if you’re nearby, or you can join our waitlist for spring shipments. If you’re looking for more than just mums, we have a full lineup of fun events at the farm this September, including wreath-making and fancy dinners. And if you’re interested in a little design therapy, join me in the barn for a design workshop this weekend—there are still a few seats left! (Check out our Fall events here!)

Mark your calendars for an important event: our Virtual Mum Summit from October 31st to November 2nd! Grab a ticket for some fantastic entertainment that pairs perfectly with your Halloween candy. We have an exciting lineup, including speakers from all corners of the chrysanthemum world, educational sessions on what we’ve learned at Harmony Harvest, and a recap of our National Chrysanthemum Trial. Plus, we’ll have prizes, coupons, and discounts. Make sure to get your ticket and find those cozy socks to wear while you watch!

Our farm team and family are finally starting to feel better (thanks for all the love and support). After a challenging summer, we’re embracing fall with a renewed sense of gratitude and enthusiasm. We’re eager to showcase our appreciation by helping you discover the joy and beauty of flowers.

XOXO, Jess
