Mother's Day, according to my kids.

In my household, Mother’s Day is kind of a big deal, and only partly because I make a big deal of it. The kids also decide to go big this time of year to show their love for me and make me feel special. 

They’ve already started “helping” extra (which mostly means enthusiastic cleaning with mixed results), working on making special crafts in secret, and being on their absolute best behavior. They take over chores, plan a meal, and always make a point of showing up and being present. It’s sweet in the most genuine way.

This year feels even more special because my sister gets to experience motherhood for the first time this Mother's Day with her two foster kids. It's going to be extra special in our family! And of course, we dote on our mom (aka The Lady Monarch) year round, but we like to ensure she is extra celebrated on Mother's Day and treated like a queen.

That's probably why I’m especially excited about what we’re planning on the farm this year. I’m spending Mother’s Day afternoon with all the other local mommas at 2:00pm in the the barn hosting a floral design workshop. It’s exactly the kind of afternoon I’d want for myself - slow, beautiful, and surrounded by flowers. We’ll be using a seasonal mix of what’s blooming, but hopefully there will be peonies, stock, and all the good things that make the farm feel alive! We hope it’ll be fresh and full of possibilities, and getting to share that with other women - mothers, daughters, friends - just feel so right. Plus, I’m excited to have my very own arrangement to take to the dinner table for that meal I’m sure my kids will make for me.

P.S. One year, this was my Mother’s Day gift. I’m just waiting for the day my kids have to clean out my underwear drawer and realize I kept every single one of these… times four kids. That’ll be a full-circle moment 😅
