Is this our best flower season on record?

It’s the start of our big Mother’s Day harvest, and the farm is giving. Like, it knows we need all the floral abundance right now and is cranking out beauty in every direction. I was out of town last weekend for the Mid-Atlantic Antique and Garden Show, and coming home to the farm felt like walking into a totally new world. Just a few days away, and everything in the gardens has changed.

On our weekly crop walk, I saw that the lupine had gone from tiny babies to full-on, harvest-ready purple blooms. These tall, regal beauties are standing proud in the perennial fields and making us all swoon. The amsonia is throwing out its magical blue flush, and the rest of the perennials aren’t far behind. I swear they grew a foot overnight.

The peonies are Right. On. Time. We’re babysitting them like hawks as they hit their perfect harvest stage throughout the day. Coral Charm is leading the pack, but we’re starting to see Red Charm and even a few of the early whites and pinks trickling into the cooler. It’s shaping up to be a huge peony year, and I’m so excited thinking about how many moms are going to be celebrated with armloads of these blooms.

And then the babtisia! Our chocolate variety is the first to bloom this week with its tall, striking spikes. I always love how it adds a unique texture that piques people’s interest in bouquets. It’s absolutely a wow flower, and I legit squealed when I saw we’d have it in time for Mother’s Day.

But the real jaw-dropper right now is House 6. The stock crop is next level. If only you could smell it through your screen. It’s got this heavenly clove-like scent that hits you the second you step inside, and the color range is outrageous. It’s way more impressive than looking at a rainbow, and it’s arrived at the perfect time for spring bouquets. This might just be the best flush of stock we’ve ever had: tall, straight stems, fluffy petals, and every shade you can dream of. I seriously hope they stick around for a few more weeks because they are just that good.

Everyone on the farm agrees that this season is already shaping up to be one of our best yet, especially this early on. This kind of start to the season fills me with so much hope and excitement for what’s ahead. We can’t wait to make your Mother’s Day extra special this year. If you haven’t booked your Mother’s Day bouquets yet, what are you waiting for?!?!?

XOXO, Jess
