From Field to Wreath

If July felt like a blur of sweat, weeds, and flower buckets, well… that's because it was. But here at Harmony Harvest Farm, August kicks things into another gear — and this week has been the kind of busy that leaves your boots dirty and your heart full.

We’re still full steam ahead with chrysanthemums, of course; planting more in our tunnels for the fall show and giving our beloved mother mums the TLC they need. That means careful maintenance (a.k.a. pruning and pinching like flower barbers) to keep them healthy and thriving for the long haul. They're the backbone of our chrysanthemum collection, and keeping them happy right now means gorgeous blooms later.

And yes, we are still deep in the trenches — literally — with weeding our annual fields. At this point in the season, it feels like a full-body workout and a spiritual exercise all in one. The rain has been great for the flowers, but wow, the weeds are growing like they’ve got somewhere to be. It’s relentless, but it’s part of the rhythm of the farm this time of year.

We're also deep into harvesting fresh flowers, and this week, we've added something extra exciting to the mix: harvesting blooms for drying.

Every year, around this time, we start preserving some of our freshest, most beautiful flowers to stock up for fall dried flower season, and our giant old bank barn becomes the most magical drying room you’ve ever seen. Rows of upside-down bouquets, bundles of herbs, grasses, and blooms hang from the beams like a floral time capsule.

If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at drying flowers at home, this is the moment. We pulled together The Complete Guide to Drying Flowers for anyone who wants to preserve a little bit of the season’s beauty; whether you’re a farmer, florist, or just a flower lover with a kitchen full of bouquets you can’t bear to toss. (Been there.)

These dried beauties go on to live new lives in bulk sales and, one of my very favorite things: our Fall Dried Flower Workshops on Saturday, October 18th, 2025.

If you haven’t been to one yet, let me paint you a picture: the barn is filled with the warm scent of dried blooms, the colors of the season hang from every rafter, and folks gather around with snips and twine, building the most stunning, seasonal wreaths from materials we’ve lovingly grown, harvested, and dried right here on the farm.

We even teach you how to make your own wreath base from natural materials, so your creation is truly farm-crafted from start to finish. No two wreaths are ever alike, and watching guests explore their creativity surrounded by the literal fruits (flowers?) of our labor is a joy that never gets old.

Everyone leaves with something beautiful and a smile as bright as a zinnia in full bloom.

So if you're dreaming of cozy fall vibes and want a hands-on way to bring the beauty of the season into your home, don’t wait to grab your ticket. These workshops are some of the best we offer, and they tend to fill up faster than you can say “pumpkin spice.”

We can’t wait to see you in the barn soon — until then, we’ll be out in the fields, elbow-deep in mums and memories.
