Ever wanted to learn how to flower farm?
Jessica Hall
Wow, I've really been enjoying these 80-degree days. It's like an energy shot to the system, amazing what a healthy dose of sunshine can do for the soul (and for the Anemone, they are really starting to show up and show off!). Nothing like driving around with the windows down, blaring favorite tunes in the car, and enjoying the early daffodils and forsythia along the roadsides.Â

The kids are over all of the plant lessons I freely hand out during our outings, identifying trees and telling them interesting tidbits about the flowers I see blooming or historical facts about the plants around them. I remind them that one day they will miss these facts being dropped on them by their mother, but right now they just think I'm lame and boring. I need a new crowd to roll in, I guess. I've always loved soaking up horticulture knowledge; plant information sticks easily for me (much easier than birthdays or bill due dates), and I get such a high from sharing that knowledge with others. I could talk for days about how to grow zinnias all season long, or all of the creative hacks we have used over the years to keep the deer and rabbits away from the flowers. Life lessons learned along the way from trials and errors, and other gardening friends. I love showing people what has worked and what hasn't on the farm, being honest about the realities in my garden, which is why I enjoy hosting flower farmer tours.Â

It's an hour-long, intimate tour where I walk the farm and point out all of the best behind-the-scenes tips and tricks that I have picked up over the years. Whether you're a flower farmer or just love gardening, this tour is the perfect opportunity to learn some new methods for battling hurdles in your own beds. It's always nice to stroll through someone else's garden and gain a new perspective on how you can approach your own growing style. So, take a break this season and come out to the farm for a stroll around the gardens with me. I’ll be doing these on the second Friday of every month, and you can check out the schedule here! I promise some great conversation, a few useful hacks, and a new blooming friendship.
XOXO, Jess
