A PSA From a Flower Farmer
Jessica Hall
Well, this crop report is more of a PSA. A “learn from me” kind of lesson. I guess I was really excited to have nailed Mother’s Day with the team and to be gearing up to open the farm for pick-your-own, and I overdid it. I’ve been running around like a gardener on a high of sprinkling seeds and weeding with reckless abandon when it happened. I spotted poison ivy in my front flower beds. I was aghast. A flower farmer CANNOT have poison ivy in their very front yard, and before I could even reason with myself, I grabbed it bare-handed and ripped it from the earth. Not thinking twice in the humid heat, I wiped the sweat from my brow as I continued excavating every inch of their roots. I was proud of myself, but only for a few hours before the inevitable itch crept in. The next day, I awoke looking like I had spent the entire night crying. And the following day, my eyes were completely swollen shut and I ended up with an impromptu doctor's visit and potent dose of extended rounds of steroids. I’m faring better now and slowing my roll a bit these days. Take a lesson from me and pause before doing any reckless gardening this summer!

P.S. Tecnu products have been my best friends lately if you find yourself in the same spot!
