A Little More Time Together

A Little More Time Together

Can you believe it's June? Wow, time is flyin'! Last weekend, we loaded up the kids and headed to Delaware to watch my husband walk for his second bachelor's degree as a family. We surprised the kids with an overnight stay at Great Wolf Lodge and made some pretty cool family memories along the way.

I had so much fun hanging out with my family and spending some quality time together after the madness of schedules and the flurry of appointments that have been our life lately. A chance to slow down and reconnect was so good for us all! While the 3.5 hour car ride with 6 people can be a bit intense, we seem to have hit a different stride and the entire trip from travel to arrival was smooth and enjoyable. After we got back to the farm following a weekend away, the kids begged and pleaded for a family smores bonfire, so we kept the bonding moments rolling and enjoyed some time outside on the farm together with the kids.

The pressures and distractions of life are still very much there, but they certainly seem to melt away and not feel so dire when you can connect and spend some real time soaking up present relationships. No pressure, no agenda, just time together.

The farm has now officially opened for pick-your-own, and we are thrilled to have you come out this year! The fields are looking magical as ever, and we have added a few new signs along the way to help make your stop a little less confusing! (There are a lot of gardens and greenhouses here to explore!) We are even proud members of the new Augusta farm trail. A fun new program in Augusta County where you can pick up a passport book and a brochure to learn about all the partnering farms in the area to visit this summer! We’ve got everything you need to begin at our pick-your-own self-serve station! We have so many new upgrades to the gardens and fields that you won't want to miss bringing the family out for some real outdoor bonding time.

Learn a little about the flower farm, explore the natural diversity that exists in our special little corner of the valley, and connect with yourself and the land again. The stresses of life aren't going to go away, but with a little connection to our community and our environment, we might find new ways of managing them and seeing the beauty that exists every day. So come out and say hi, pick a cup full of flowers, and find the simple joys this season at the flower farm.

P.S. Our little town, Grottoes, Virginia, got its first fast food restaurant, a McDonald's. While we love all our local food options and support them reguarly, its also handy to know that the McDonald's drive-through is just down the road for a quick cone of ice cream after a visit to the flower farm....my children have already threatened to walk there on nights they don't like what I'm fixing for dinner.
